Leading Ladies Logo

Christopher Williams, who directed last season’s smash hit Beau Jest, returns to stage LEADING LADIES. Ken Ludwig centers his play on two young English actors who are so broke that they are performing their Shakespearean shows at Moose Lodges in Amish country. When they hear about an elderly lady about to die leaving her fortune to her long-lost English nephews, the actors decide to pass themselves off as her relatives to get the cash. The catch? The lost nephews are actually nieces. Romantic entanglements ensue, disguises are devised and hilarious comic moments abound. Performances are January 17 through February 3.

Life Could be a Dream logo

LIFE COULD BE A DREAM (The Doo-Wop Musical!) by Roger Bean, is a San Diego Regional Musical Theatre Premiere! Return to Springfield High (where "The Marvelous Wonderettes" matriculated) and meet the "Crooning Crabcakes," the boy group banned from the senior prom. The singing foursome is headed for fame and fortune by trying to win the local radio contest on Big Whopper Radio. Songs from this musical journey to the past include "Runaround Sue," "Tears on My Pillow," "Earth Angel," and "The Glory of Love." The show won L.A. Drama Critics Circle Awards as Best Production of the year in 2011. Production dates are February 14 through March 10.

Born Yesterday logo

Garson Kanin’s magnificent play BORN YESTERDAY may be old, but you’d never know it. The original Broadway production of the play, opening in 1946, ran for more than 1600 performances, which was unprecedented for its time. Set in Washington D.C. of the ‘40s, this entertaining tale of a wealthy junk dealer (Harry Brock) and his supposedly “dumb blonde girlfriend” (Billie Dawn, to be played by San Diego favorite Jessica John) has a plot line that could be culled from today’s headlines. Harry does business by making deals with insiders, and his girlfriend doesn’t fit in with Washington society. So Billie Dawn gets assigned to a “tutor," a smart reporter whose passion is museums, literature and uncovering the Capitol’s dirty little secrets. See what a little tutoring does for the showgirl, the reporter, and the high stakes of Harry’s financial deals! Jason Heil returns to the AVO to direct. Production dates are March 21 through April 7.

The 23rd Winter Season of Moonlight Stage Productions is produced in partnership with the Moonlight Cultural Foundation (moonlightfoundation.com) and is the cultural arts program of the City of Vista.
